Johnny Appleseed spent his life travelling across the United States in his bare feet, chopping down trees and planting apple orchards for future pioneers. All of his hard work was motivated by his love for apples. Enjoy some apples in Applesauce just like Johnny’s family.
Cook
Applesauce
Complexity: Easy, just chop and peel the apples and cook. Time: 10 minutes prep, 50 minutes cooking.
Ingredients
10 apples (I like to use 5 Pink Lady and 5 Jonagold, make sure that you pick apples that are good for saucing)
1 cup water
¾ cup sugar, more or less to taste
Equipment:
Large pot
Knife
Apple peeler
Directions
Peel, core, and slice apples. Apples should be sliced thinly.
Place apples in pot with 1 cup water. Turn heat to low and let sit for 1 hour. Stir with a spoon. If apples do not break up nicely, continue cooking for 10 minutes.
If the apples are at your desired consistency, add sugar and mix well.
